The heavy snow failed to rain on the parade of fifteen weddings in Buckinghamshire that went ahead mid-December, thanks to the sterling efforts of the County's Registration Service.

Eighteen members of staff worked across both days to help make sure brides and grooms were able to say 'I do' and not 'I can't', even driving through the worst of the conditions on Saturday so every ceremony was completed.

A number of husbands and partners gave up their day to drive and offer moral support to staff.  Some staff had a 10 or 12 hour day on Saturday and one member of staff and her husband didn't get home until the next day.

Between Christmas and January 4, another nineteen weddings were booked through the Registration Services and staff will be doing everything to make sure all nineteen go ahead.

Joy Morris, Superintendent Registrar for Buckinghamshire, said: "The dedication of these ladies went above and beyond the call of duty this weekend, they are a credit to the Registration Service and the Council and I am very proud of every one of them. They took everything in their stride with their usual professionalism and good humour arriving with high heels in hand and just got on with the job, not knowing if they were going to get home again."

Patricia Birchley, Cabinet Member for Adults and Family Wellbeing, said: "It always makes me proud to hear tales like this, where staff are helping the community to enjoy their lives, against all odds. Everyone deserves a special day for their wedding so I'm glad our staff have helped to make this possible."
