Salvo Fair, the worlds biggest architectural salvage fair, will take place on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th June. More than eighty exhibitors will set up displays of 800 tonnes of stock, all of it for sale. The best dealers from all over the UK, France, Belgium and Holland will bring architectural salvage, reclaimed materials, garden antiques, bygones. Many saving their special and interesting pieces for Salvo Fair.
There will be at least four exhibitors from France, one of which, Reclamation Warriors, is based in the Mayenne region. This year they will be bringing a big selection of old brass and iron bedsteads, lots of old cast iron cooking pots in traditional orange, red and black, and a collection of glass bonbons (antique demijohns) in traditional dark green, olive and brown.
A few years ago, Salvo website with its classified ads began embracing the trend in upcycling. Many dealers were finding they had stagnant stock that needed a little revamp to get it moving and so a new category was built called recraft. There have been many recraft items at Salvo Fair including old sash window and metal framed windows made into mirrors, ceramic electrical insulators made into garden water features, doors and tables from reclaimed timber. One long term exhibitor, Guy Trench has always made unique lights, mirrors and furniture from otherwise defunct items. His latest idea is stripping apart an old industrial mangle and using each part to build something new. The cogs become pendant lights, the wheel and handle become a mirror and the legs and base make a fantastic table.
Salvo Fair has been based in the deer park at Knebworth House for many years, but with a big music concert booked at Knebworth, the time has come to change venue. Stubbings Estate is very conveniently placed near Maidenhead between the M4 and M40, thirty miles west of central London. The site comprises of a splendid Georgian mansion house in the Maidenhead Thicket, with a garden nursery and glasshouse cafe. There is free car parking and an onsite cash machine. Salvo Fair ticket holders will have access to the private lawns for peace and picnics.
Stubbings Estate is located a short distance from the M4 (junction 8/9) or M40 (junction 4), 40 minutes from central London 10 minutes from Heathrow. Maidenhead station is within easy reach by taxi.

This sounds great! I've never heard of anything like this either. Now all I need is a property to renovate! Might go along though just for the novelty and interest. I suppose I could buy some door knobs or something! ;-)
