Thames Valley Police are preparing to launch their annual Winter burglary campaign as we wave a firm farewell to summer and it starts to get darker much earlier.

Chief Inspector Colin Seaton will be encouragiong local homeowners to be extra vigilent during the winter months - especially during the darler evenings when homes and property can be more vunerable to burglars. Sadly, this time of year is especially notorious for a spike in thefts.

The police recommend that people make extra efforts to protect their homes by installing timer switches for lights and making double sure that their propety is fully secured and locked up whenever they go out.

As part of this crime-busting campaign, Thames Valley Police will also be expanding their Twitter campaign  - any local 'Tweeters' who followed the coverage of the London Riots online, will be aware of how effectively they were able to respond to concerns and queries and how untrue rumours of local rioting in Wycombe and Slough were very quickly quashed before they led to unecessary panic.
