MARLOW Football Club

will celebrate its 140th birthday later this month.

Great Marlow F.C. was

formed at a meeting at The Compleat Angler Hotel by Marlow Bridge on 22nd

November, 1870.

The club will mark

this special birthday on November 20th during and after the

scheduled game with AFC Hayes at Oak Tree Road. Plans for the celebration

include food, music and a raffle in the clubhouse from 7pm.

Tickets for the event

are available at the price of £5 per person and can be purchased direct from

the clubhouse bar. Alternatively you can book by calling Den ***mins on 01628

484496 or 07803 924055.

Marlow F.C. is one of

the oldest clubs in the country and entered the first ever F.A. Cup competition

held in 1871 – 1872. The club even contributed a share of the very first

trophy, which cost £25.

The Club's ground until 1919 was Crown Meadow, now the Riley

Recreational Ground.  The players then moved to Star Meadow before gaining

a permanent home at the Alfred Davis Memorial Ground, which saw its first game

in 1928.

The Blues' most successful season was from 1993 to 1994,

when the club reached the First Round of the F.A. Cup. The team’s 0-2 home defeat

against Plymouth Argyle was featured on television. The season also saw Marlow

win he Bucks & Bucks Senior Cup with a 1-0 victory over local rivals

Chesham Utd.

Today’s team is

managed by Kevin Stone and captained by Leigh Mason.
