Marlow FC players in the late nineteenth century
will celebrate its 140th birthday later this month.
Great Marlow F.C. was
formed at a meeting at The Compleat Angler Hotel by Marlow Bridge on 22nd
November, 1870.
The club will mark
this special birthday on November 20th during and after the
scheduled game with AFC Hayes at Oak Tree Road. Plans for the celebration
include food, music and a raffle in the clubhouse from 7pm.

are available at the price of £5 per person and can be purchased direct from

Marlow F.C. is one of
the oldest clubs in the country and entered the first ever F.A. Cup competition
held in 1871 – 1872. The club even contributed a share of the very first
trophy, which cost £25.
The Club's ground until 1919 was Crown Meadow, now the Riley
Recreational Ground. The players then moved to Star Meadow before gaining
a permanent home at the Alfred Davis Memorial Ground, which saw its first game
in 1928.
The Blues' most successful season was from 1993 to 1994,
when the club reached the First Round of the F.A. Cup. The team’s 0-2 home defeat
against Plymouth Argyle was featured on television. The season also saw Marlow
win he Bucks & Bucks Senior Cup with a 1-0 victory over local rivals
Chesham Utd.
Today’s team is
managed by Kevin Stone and captained by Leigh Mason.
